I. Nakhla is an artist, musician, and teacher. Through sound, workshops, music, and performance, they build sonic worlds. Nakhla is interested in the accessibility and curation of archives, forming sonic interventions that insist on active pasts and urgent presences. Nakhla’s audio work is embedded in relations between voice, place, environment, and identity (personal as well as community, intergenerational as well as ‘present’-tense). Their work performs sound and music as transitory places, prompting questions about what we consider to be space, place and exhibition. With collaboration and participation a key part of their practice, Nakhla works with the sonic to queer sites of production, in search of inclusive and ongoing sonic ecosystems.

Nakhla works as a lecturer at Camberwell College of Art, UAL (BA Sculpture) and Northampton University (BA Fine Art).
